47th Janapathi Sadaham Yathra at Saddarmakara Piriven Temple

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Today marks the Navam Full Moon Poya Day. Buddhists across the country celebrate many significant events of the Buddhist calendar that took place on this day. Navam Full Moon has special significance for the Buddhists in Sri Lanka and in the world. The appointment of the two chief disciples of Gautama Buddha as Aggrasharvaka namely Sariputta and Moggallana took place on a Navam Full Moon Poya day. Also, it is on a Navam Full Moon Poya Day that the Buddha proclaimed, for the first time, a code of fundamental ethical precepts for the monks. It is also on a Navam Full Moon Poya Day that Lord Buddha announced that, his Parinibbana would take place within three months. A pooja was held today(February 19) at Sri Shakaya Malakaya opposite the head office of The Capital Maharaja Organisation to commemorate  Navam Full Moon Poya Day. This year, the pooja was organized by MTV Channel Private Ltd. The 47th Janapathi Sadaham Yathra Dhamma sermon was also held today(February 19) at the Saddarmakara Piriven Temple in Pinwatte, Panadura. President Maithripala Sirisena attended various religious observances including the Dhamma Sermon.
