Maldives & Sri Lanka to enhance cooperation to curb drug trafficking

Colombo (News1st): President of the Maldives Ibrahim Solih concluded his tour of Sri Lanka today. This afternoon he called on President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat.  A guard of honor was held by the armed forces in honor of the Maldivian President. According to a media release issued by the President's media unit, the two Presidents had discussed a gamut of issued and reaffirmed their commitment towards strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fight against drugs and other narcotics. It was also revealed that during this meeting that President Solih had commended President Sirisena for the actions taken against cracking down on illegal drug trafficking and his commitment towards it. The Leaders had also discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and the Maldives as well as to revise the agreements entered between the two countries in the fields of trade, health, defense, education, and naval cooperation and also to enter into new agreements in relations to those fields. President Solih who came to Sri Lanka to attend the 71 independence day celebrations, left Colombo this evening.
