Weerawansa to pay Rs. 10 Mn for Intellectual property violation

COLOMBO (News 1st) - MP Wimal Weerawansa was ordered by Colombo Commercial High Court today (January 11) to pay a sum of Rs. 10 Million as compensation to JVP's Tilvin Silva. The order was given when he was found guilty in a case filed under the Intellectual Property act. Tilvin Silva had filed the case on similar contents included in a book written by Wimal Weerawansa titled "Naththa wenuwata Aththa." He accused that the content was similar to the ideas and proposals presented by him (Tilvin Silva) to the JVP Executive committee and that Wimal Weerawansa had violated his intellectual property rights. The case which lasted for over ten years at the Colombo Commercial High Court finally provided its decision that the Intellectual rights of the book should be given to the complainant Tilvin Silva.
