Illegal sand mining racket in Potuvil

Colombo (News1st): Residents of Potuvil allege an illegal sand mining operation is taking place opposite the Muhudumahaa temple in Potuvil. Area residents claim, the racketeers are destroying the sand dunes and offering them for sale. The villagers claim that their village was protected from the Tsunami by these dunes. Residents also claim sea erosion has also occurred as a result of the mining and add that the racketeers are attempting to claim possession of the lands in the area.
