Colombo (News 1st) – The employees of the Municipal council launched a strike this morning (October 18).
The strike is against a shop owner in Badulla who reprimanded a Municipal council employee during her workhours and also attacked another employee.
The council workers claim that they will continue the strike until legal action is taken against the shop owner.
It is reported that due to the protest by the Badulla Municipal council, garbage collection and the duties in cemeteries have been neglected.
The Badulla police stated that the Municipal council employees had filed a complaint against the shop owner on the 16th of October. However there had been no possibility of taking action as both parties involved were injured and had been admitted to the Badulla Hospital.
Police also noted that the perpertrators will be arrestd and the necessary legal action would be taken when they leave the hospital.
