Police officers accused of concealing evidence in Lasantha trial, released on bail

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Former Police DIG Prasanna Nanayakkara and Former Mount Lavinia Police Sub-Inspector Thissa Sugathapala were released on bail today by the Mount Lavinia Chief Magistrate Mohammed Mihaim. They were earlier arrested for concealing evidence relating to the Lasantha Wickremetunge homicide. The Chief Magistrate ordered them to be released on a cash bail of 50,000 rupees each and two sureties of 1 Million Rupees each. The Chief Magistrate noted that those who sign for bail should be close relatives of the family. In addition, the duo was ordered to surrender their passports to court and was barred from travelling overseas. The Chief Magistrate ordered Nanayakkara and Sugathapala to appear before the Criminal Investigations Department on the final Sunday of every month. The case was postponed until the 27th of September.
