Shortage of chemicals used to check blood at NBTC

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Reports revealed that there has been a shortage of chemicals used to check blood at the National Blood Transfusion Center. Acting Director of National Blood Transfusion Center, Dr Rukshan Bellana said that the stock of chemicals available in storage is sufficient only for the next 2 days. Such a shortage has occurred due to the delay in delivering the substance by chemical suppliers on time. These chemicals are been used to test for the presence of various types of viruses like HIV and Malaria in the blood samples donated to the National Blood Transfusion Center. Meanwhile, Spokesperson of the Government Medical Officers' Association, Dr Samantha Ananda said that the doctors attached to the National Blood Transfusion Center have launched a strike action today, against the administration of Acting Director of the Center Dr Rukshan Bellana.
