$20 million embezzled through ship deal - Nalin Bandara

Colombo (News1st) - Deputy Minister of Public Administration and Law & Order, Nalin Bandara arrived at the Police Financial Crimes Division to provide a statement, this morning (June 15th). Police Media Spokesperson, SP Ruwan Gunasekara said the Deputy Minister has lodged a complaint about irregularities carried out when purchasing two ships for the Ceylon Shipping Corporation Limited, during the former regime. The FCID, had summoned Deputy Minister Nalin Bandara, to record a statement with regard to this case. Speaking to the media after providing the statement to the FCID Deputy Minister Nalin Bandara noted that the deal that he had complained about was worth $70 million. Bandara charges that around 20 million dollars had been embezzled through a process of purchasing a ship.  He went onto note that the country continues to pay a hefty loan instalment for the embezzled money.
