COLOMBO (News 1st) - The 16 members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party who defected from the government convened a media briefing in Colombo today (June 7). When journalists questioned MP Dayasiri Jayasekara about allegations that he received money from Perpetual Treasuries Ltd, the MP said although he received telephone calls during the bond issue, he did not accept money from Arjun Aloysius' Perpetual Treasuries Ltd. Speaking of why MP Jayasekara can't issue an affidavit he said in order to give an affidavit it should be proven whether or not he received money. "Now do these notes say they are from Arjun Aloysius? Which is why I said UNP MP's have received 1, 1.5 and 2 million rupees for their election campaigns. Has anyone spoken about from where that money came? Now they say money was given through a journalist called Mahesh Senanayake. This is Aloysius' money, but they are not through cheques. So anyone can say they did not take money," he added.
