COLOMBO (News 1st) - Speaking on the Newsline programme the Executive Director of CaFFE, Keerthi Tennakoon, says that fuel subsidies should be given only to the people who need it the most., such as farmers and fishermen. Tennakoon said the crisis we see today is because the Government takes decisions which are popular but in turn end up becoming a financial burden to the people themselves. He went on to emphasise the cost of delaying decisions. He said, "When decision making is being delayed, what could have been solved with a rupee or two rupees eventually turns into a crisis." He also catagorised the Government's latest bid at rurual development, which was announced just before an election year, as an attempt to cover up the inadequacies of the Ministers. Tennakoon says that the Government is not investing the earnings in proper development projects or in a systematic manner. The Executive director of CaFFE also claims that politicians are attempting to mount a political campaign for the 2020 election by using the money generated through the Diesel, Coal and Electricity mafia.
