COLOMBO (News 1st) - Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived at the residence of JVP politburo member K. D. Lalkantha to pay last respects to his mother who passes away recently. The former president expressed his condolences to K. D. Lalkantha and had a discussion with him. The former president then spoke to journalists regarding the current political situation, at the residence of Former Minister S. M. Chandrasena. When journalists asked the former president whether he agrees with the proposed 20th amendment to the constitution, which calls for the executive presidency to be abolished, which is being championed by the JVP, he shared these views.
"The problem is that the recommendation has not been presented... our group must get together and have a look at it. How can we discuss the recommendation without it actually being put forward? It is better not to talk of the matter."
