UNP reforms expected by end of April

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister Kabir Hashim has hinted at the UNP forming a single party government, but the party remains embroiled in issues pertaining to party reforms. Following a full day of talks involving the UNP Working Committee and Parliamentary Group on Saturday (April 7), a decision was taken to appoint a 12 member Political Committee, empowered to make political decisions for the party. It was stated later that this committee would nominate individuals to fill vacant positions in the Party, before the 30th of April. While the position of General Secretary of the party is currently vacant, UNP Chairman, Minister Malik Samarawickrema has also expressed his willingness to resign. Former General Secretary of the UNP, Minister Kabir Hashim expressing his views stated that there are many who think that they would be able to retain their positions for eternity. He said while some party's talk big, positions are handed out like it is a family company.
