COLOMBO (News 1st) – The inaugural session of the newly elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Hambantota Municipal Council was postponed due to the lack of quorum.
The inaugural session was to take place today (March 28).
According to Hambantota Urban Commissioner, Kasun Seneviratne, ten out of twenty-one members elected to the council were present at today’s session (March 28). This included nine members of the UNP and one member of the JVP.
Seven members of the SLPP and four members of the UPFA did not attend the session.
When News 1st inquired into the matter, Southern Province Local Government Commissioner said the attendance of at least 50% of the councillors is required to conduct the initial session.
