COLOMBO (News 1st) – Water supply to over 25,000 families in Galle has been suspended following a fire that erupted at the Wakwella Main Water Treatment Plant.
General Manager of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Deepthi Sumanasekera, said the fire had erupted last night at the main circuit of the plant.
A number of state and private sector institutes including the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital and Mahamodara General Hospital have been affected as a result of the water cut.
Galle divisional Engineer, M.K. Lesthi said steps have been taken to provide water to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital through another plant, while water is being provided through bowsers to the Mahamodara General Hospital.
