Former Navy Spokesperson Commadore D.K.P Dassanayake and several others have been released on bail. They were arrested over the abduction of eleven youths from Colombo using 'White Vans' in 2008. Counsel appearing for the group requested the Fort Magistrate to remove the investigations from the Criminal Investigations Department. While the Senior State Counsel appearing for the Attorney General opposed the request,  the Magistrate decided to issue an order on that request on February 22. The Magistrate remanded the 8th and 9th suspects until the set date. Another order was issued by the Magistrate, preventing the overseas travel of another suspect in the case, Lieutenant Commander Prasad Hettiarachchi. Controller General of Immigration and Emigration was ordered to detain and hand over Hettiarachchi to the CID when he returns to the country. The open arrest warrant issued against Lieutenant Commander Prasad Hettiarachchi was issued in English as well.
