A protest march against the selling off of state banks was staged in Nugegoda yesterday (January 28).

The protest march was staged by the Ceylon Bank Employees Union. Employees of banks and civil activist took part in the demonstrations.

The protesters marched from the High Level road to the Ananda Samarakoon openair theatre.

The Chairman of the Ceylon Bank Employees Union, T.G.W. Gunawardena stated that a proposal to sell off 10% of state banks including the Bank of Ceylon and the National Insurance Corporation to the general public has been approved.

Furthermore, he stated that a new political culture was born on January 8. 2015 and this was not given to the “Good Governance” Government to just be sold off.

He stated that that would like to tell the government that they will defeat this proposal.
