Measures have been taken to limit the number of heavy vehicles entering Colombo during the festive season. According to the police, the measure was taken with the aim of reducing the daily traffic congestion experienced in and around areas of Colombo.
Accordingly, heavy vehicles would be allowed to enter Colombo between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. every morning.
Police added that an effective plan to curb the traffic congestion experienced during the evenings will be introduced following assessments to look into the main causes.
Meanwhile, over a 1000 police officers have been deployed on motor traffic duty the festive season. Police adds that strict legal action would be taken against all motorists who violate motor traffic rules this season.
