The Paffrel Organisation states that over 32 candidates contesting in the upcoming local government elections have been linked to committing a number of crimes.

According to the Executive Director of Paffrel, Rohana Hettiarachchi, information has come to light that a number of candidates have close ties with members of underworld gangs.

Meanwhile, security services have received information about allegations against three contestants who are taking part in the upcoming polls.

According to a senior police officer, the suspected election candidates are to contest from the Weligama and Colombo areas.

He added that special attention has been given to the suspected contestants during the run- up to the local gvernment polls.
