The Railway Department has stated that the number of railroads being insufficient is the reason for the delay of train travel. According to the General Manger of Railways S.M. Abeywickrema, the reduction in railroads between Maradana and Fort has made it insufficient for train travel.

There are only four trains in the area. The Railway General Manager noted that the train services from Colombo Fort will be delayed due to this reason

He pointed out that in some places, it is only a single railroad, a situation which is making it difficult for more than two trains to travel on the same railway line.

This has resulted in many complaints citing train delays.
