The arrests were made based on a tip off received by the Sri Lanka Navy. It was discovered that the suspects were transporting ganja in a van.

The suspects and the ganja were taken into custody, following a joint raid conducted by naval officers attached to the North Western Naval Command, and officers of the Puttlam District Special Task Force.

The suspects and the stock of Kerala ganja have been handed over to the Anamaduwa Police for further investigations.
