President Maithripala Sirisena, the first Sri Lankan leader to visit Russia in forty-three years, met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin today, March 23, in a positive move to develop ties between the two countries.
President Sirisena was received with a Guard of Honour at the Kremlin’s Alexander Garden when he visited the Red Square to place a wreath at the tomb of an unknown soldier.
First Lady Jayanthi Sirisena and the Sri Lankan delegation were among those present.
According to the President’s Media Division, the bilateral meeting between President Sirisena and his Russian Counterpart Vladimir Putin lasted for more than an hour.
