China’s Minister of Defence, General Chang Wan Quan, arrived in Sri Lanka on Sunday night on a two day official visit.
The Ministry of Defence said that the General was accompanied by a five-member delegation. The delegation will also be visiting Nepal, which holds a strategic position as a natural land buffer between China and India.
During the visit, the Chinese delegation will hold discussions with the President, the Secretary of Defence and the State Minister of Defence.
China has invested heavily in Sri Lanka, funding airports, roads, railways and ports, and including Sri Lanka in its One Belt, One Road mission to create a modern-day “Silk Road” across Asia.
