The Consumer Affairs Authority has taken the necessary steps to speed up the process of carrying out raids of shops which sell food items above the controlled price.
Secretary to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Chinthaka Lokuhetty said that all leave granted to Consumer Affairs Authority officials have been cancelled in this regard.
Raids will continue to be carried out over the weekend as well.
The Secretary added that the raid will look into whether quality products are being sold to the end consumer.
The Ministry of Industry and Commerce notes that many vendors disregard the allocated controlled price and increase the prices when selling essential goods such as sugar and rice.
