As more than a million people across the country suffer from the impact of what could become the worst drought in Sri Lanka in several decades, the Sirasa, Shakthi, TV1, MBC and Newsfirst Sahana Yathra, embarked today, Saturday, January 21, carrying much-needed aid to the worst affected areas of the country.
The aid convoys departed this morning following multi-faith religious observances at the Head Office of the MTV/MBC network.
Following the opening ceremony, the four aid convoys embarked on their journey to the Monaragala, Hambantota, Batticaloa and Jaffna districts.
Since reaching the drought hit areas the convoys have been carefully distributing the aid provided by you, directly to the people who have been affected by the drought.
We will ensure that the aid you entrusted to us, will reach those who need it the most.
Minister P. Harrison, at an event held today, invited other media insititutions to follow “Sirasa’s lead and go among the people to provide much needed aid”.
“We witnessed the timely work of the Sirasa Sahana Yathra this time too. The whole country knows about it”, pointed out the minister.
