Several people were seen visiting MP Wimal Weerawansa who remains under remand custody at the Welikada Prison.

On Tuesday, January 17, a group of artists visited Weerawansa.

Though a large group of artists had arrived to visit Wimal Weerawansa, only a few were granted permission to do so.

The group subsequently expressed their views to the media.

Director Sudath Rohana : “We are not raising our voices against the imprisonment of criminals or against the implementation of the law. But is the law being implemented properly at this moment? Do we see an independence of the law? This is actually a political witch hunt”.

Actor Roger Seneviratne : “There is a Land master in this list of vehicles as well. Do they think that Wimal Weerawansa used this Landmaster to see Vesak with his family? What kind of joke is this?”.

A journalist asked Roger Seneviratne about his opinion on the 40 misused vehicles. Hee responded stating that nothing can be told as there is an ongoing case on this.

Actress Anusha Damayanthi : “I certainly did a lot for Mahinda Rajapaksa. I do not have a vast knowledge on history or politics. But I believe that I have the capability to identify the people who love this country and its people”.

Actor Lal Kularatne : “I think the Central Bank scam was the biggest theft, not in Sri Lanka, but in the whole of Asia. This scam is still in effect, it hasn’t stopped. The other thing which can be seen before our very eyes is that this person is buying over media institutions. So they are essentially getting themselves among the people in a bid to cover this up. We have got to know that he is even buying over newspaper institutions. What can happen through this is that even artists might join these institutions. This is actually a conspiracy”.
