Sri Lankan’s have become more generous in the world with a larger number of people lending a helping hand to others during last year, according to a new study on generosity that ranks more than 140 countries.
The World Giving Index 2016 that was released on Monday ranked Sri Lanka at 5th with a score of 57% and is placed just above Canada, Indonesia and the UK.
Neighboring India was ranked 91 with an improvement from last year’s 106th and is placed just above Pakistan and Bangladesh.
China came last in the overall rankings with a score of 11%.
The research is carried out by CAF World Giving Index which is a leading study on global generosity.
It provides a picture of charitable behavior around the world.
The CAF World Giving Index measures the average percentage of people in each country who donate money, volunteer or help a stranger.
This year, 140 countries were surveyed, representing around 96% of the world’s population.
