This is only one of the many tales of woe News 1st has encountered throughout our many outreach programmes. All it takes to alleviate their suffering, is a little support from you. The News 1st Gammedda 100-Days initiative has been undertaken with this singular purpose.
The villagers of Serukkan in Killinochchi, live amid many hardships. For these villagers, finding even a drop of water to drink in this arid zone, is a challenge.
Villagers travel great distances to find water.
The foundation was laid on Sunday August 21, to resolve this problem through the News 1st Gammedda 100-Days programme with the initiation of the Serukkan village drinking water scheme.
Representatives of The Capital Maharaja Organisation Limited, and the District Secretary of Killinochchi were among the gathering for the laying of the foundation stone.
While the villagers themselves are vested with the responsibility of maintaining this water scheme, the Gammedda Saviya Organisation, made up of village representatives, was established for this purpose.
