A gazette has been issued citing that hydro power plants cannot hereafter be constructed in unsuitable regions of the country.
This programme is being carried out by the Central Environmental Authority, together with the Ceylon Electricity Board. Several areas in the country are facing environmental crises due to the establishment of small hydro power plants across the country.
Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, Suren Batagoda says that protests have been launched by the general public in these areas.
