The Torch of Hope rally organised by News 1st to create support for the Sri Lankan contingent taking part in the Rio Olympics entered its eighth day on Thursday.
The Torch of Hope organised by News 1st is supported by the Ministry of Sports and the National Youth Services Council.
The Torch of Hope began its journey on Thursday morning from the historic city of Polonnaruwa.
Divisional Secretary of Polonaruwa H.K. Gangani Niroshana and Chief Inspector of the Polonaruwa Police P.S.M. Jerul participated in the event.
Scores of residents also attended the event. The Torch of Hope was carried by athletes in the Polonnaruwa district following which the western band of the Polonnaruwa led the Torch of Hope vehicle parade.
The Torch of Hope will next travel to Batticaloa on Thursday before reaching its final destination for the day, Ampara.
