New Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, received his letter of appointment from President Maithripala Sirisena for a six year term. The letter was presented at the President’s House.
President Maithripala Sirisena had decided on Saturday to appoint Dr. Coomaraswamy to the vacant position. Shortly after receiving his letter of appointment, Dr. Coomaraswamy assumed duties at the Central Bank.
Speaking at the gathering, Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy noted that he would do his utmost duty to uphold the reputation of the CBSL.
He added that the President asked him to do his work in a straight manner by fearing no one in discharging his duties. As he met with Prime Minister he was asked to lead out his vision for where he wants to take the country.
He went on to note that a big role contains for the Central Bank in many ways, if they are not able to fulfill functions in the way it should be fulfilled, in terms of creating a platform for macro-economic stability with strong macro-economic fundamentals, having financial sector stability so there is confidence right through the system, nothing else is possible.
