The UNP responded to allegations levelled by JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake that the government, including the Prime Minister, are burdening the people with taxes while allocating funds for wasteful expenditure via a supplementary estimate.

Minister of Digital Infrastructure and Telecommunications, Harin Fernando stated that several accusations were levelled by the JVP Leader as he was reading the wrong document with regard to two vehicles for the Prime Minister – where he himself had admitted that he is unaware that two such vehicles were ordered.

He stated:

The vehicle was requested by PMSD,and it has been used by his office for 10 years. The security division also requested two bullet-proof vehicles which costs 128 million. Also, 60 million for the office of General Secretary of the office Minister Kabir Hashim our General Secretary as it is has allocated most portfolios considering all sectors.

Explaining further, he added that they wanted to move the office to the World Trade Centre since it is easy to work. Although cabinet approval was granted for 60 million, the work was completed for 30 million, as an accusation was levelled at him, that 4.2 million was spent on the official residence.
