An individual who had been sentenced to death, but was in hiding for more than 30 years, has been arrested at the Manning Market in Colombo.

Police said that the suspect had been sentenced to death by court after he shot dead an individual on June 2, 1986, in the Keselwatte area.

The suspect had reportedly fled the country following the crime, and had thereafter returned, and had thereafter started a business at the Manning Market.

Police said that he was arrested based on a tip-off received. Police added that the 60 year old suspect was produced before the Number 4 Magistrate’s Court in Hulftsdorp where he was remanded until May 9.

Court has ordered that the suspect be produced before the High Court on that day.
