The body of an abandoned infant was discovered in a canal in Kandy on Sunday March 27. The newborn’s body was discovered in a canal near the Red Anicut on the Lake Road, near the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic.

The infant who had been abandoned in the canal, was dead by the time police recovered the body. Police suspect the infant was one day old.

Police are conducting investigations to determine if the newborn was killed prior to being dumped in the canal.
