Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Harsha De Silva, while comparing the samples of a road constructed under proper standards, revealed that corruption had taken place at a road development project in the Nugegoda area.

The Deputy Minister raised allegations that 6th lane in the Nugegoda -Rajagiriya road was not constructed according to proper standards.

Deputy Minister, Dr. Harsha de Silva further noted that large machines are brought in by contractors and the roads are drilled and portions of the road are removed ‘as if it was a biscuit’ – and they obtain signatures from everyone.

“Can they remove a portion of a road in this manner? ” questioned the deputy minister. He further charged that the contractors hand this over saying they got this portion from a certain road.

The deputy minster further noted that it is not relevant whether this was done by the previous government or the current government – and just because the government has changed the thievery has not stopped, he charged.
