Doctors have removed more than 64 packets of Cocaine from the abdomen of a Venezuelan woman, who had allegedly swallowed the packets to smuggle them into the country.
The woman, who had swallowed 87 packets of cocaine, was arrested at the Katunayake Airport on Sunday, February 14. The Customs Media Spokeseperson noted that she had arrived in the country on a eleven-day visit and had also made a reservation at a popular hotel in Colombo.
Three suspects were also arrested in connection to the discovery of a stock of 20 kilogrammes of Heroin in Madampe, Ambalangoda and were produced before the Balapitiya Magistrate on Monday, February 15.
The Court has issued detention orders permitting the Ambalangoda Headquarters Police to interrogate the chief suspect, a boat owner, until February 19. The Magistrate ordered that the other suspects be remanded until February 19.
