Police had to intervene to disperse a protest organised by the Frontline Socialist Party in Fort , Colombo.
The protest march commenced from the Technical Junction in Maradana and moved towards the Presidential Office through Fort. The protesters were demanding the release of Kumar Gunaratnam, the leader of the Frontline Socialists Party, currently in remand custody.
Heavy traffic was also reported in the area as a result of the protest. Police had barricaded the road leading to the Presidents Office. Protesters attempted to break-through and move ahead. Police thereafter fired the water-cannons to prevent them from moving forward.
The group then demonstrated at the location and dispersed.
