According to witnesses from the ground, Sri Lankan supporters who came to enjoy the New Zealand vs Sri Lanka second T20 cricket match at Eden Park on Sunday, Jan. 10, were escorted from the ground by police and security guards who confiscated their musical instruments.

Social media such as Twitter and Facebook are rife with accusations where security guards were being too hard on fans.

Some of the Sri Lankans expressed their views and stated that they would never come to Eden Park again and went on to note that the security had asked them to lower the Sri Lankan flag poles and later taken off them because it could injure someone. They added that there was no drama and they were not the only people who had brought support.

A New Zealand spectator said security were being over-the-top and taking extreme measures as the big group of Sri Lankans were just having a good time and providing most of the atmosphere in what the spectator said can be a pretty dull stadium.

Another spectator stated that security guards were hanging around a group of Sri Lankan supporters near the boundary and about six of them had been evicted. He added that the Sri Lankans seemed loud but well behaved and self-contained.

Police communications staff said they did not have any information about the reported incidents.
