President Maithripala Sirisena says that a broader discussion will be called for, in order to decide as to whether the entire constitution needs to be amended, or for a certain section of it be amended.

Meeting with the heads of media institutions on Sunday evening, President Maithripala Sirisena said that this matter should not be rushed, and should only be done after a broader discussion.

President Sirisena said that it should be created in a manner in which the aspirations of the people are fulfilled and stated that the country not be dragged in to another war.

The president further stated that significant changes were made in the country, with the amendments made to the 19th Amendment to the constitution within a period of one year.
