The Al-Shabaab militants,an east African jihadist faction that pledges its allegiance to ISIS, is renowned for their attacks on Christians. However Monday’s attack did not go as planned for the group when a group of Kenyan Muslims shielded the ‘would’ve-been’ victims in a selfless act of heroism.

The Muslim Passsengers on the bus, who were mostly women, told the attackers they were prepared were prepared to die toghether.

The bus was headed to the city of Mandera, near the border of Somalia and Ethopia. The journey is such a security risk that most buses travel with a polica escort, however the police car had broken down and the bus continued on its journey according to Kenya’s Intirior Minstry.

A muslim Passenger stated to media “We even gave some non-Muslims our religious attire to wear in the bus so that they would not be identified easily. We stuck together tightly. The militants threatened to shoot us but we still refused and protected our brothers and sisters. ”

The gunmen left, but warned they would return.

Al-Shabaab, a Somalian group the United States has designated as a foreign terrorist organization, wants to turn Somalia into a fundamentalist Islamic state and had launched a series of attacks in Kenya, since Kenyan forces went into Somalia to battle the extremists in 2011. The group made its mark and showed its capability for brutality in April, ealier this year when they conducted a raid on Garissa University College in April that left nearly 150 people dead. Witnesses described how gunmen asked students to recite verses from the Quran. If they couldn’t, they were killed
