An engineer at Mumbai airport died after being sucked into the engine of an Air India plane, the company said.
The deadly incident happened late Wednesday as the Airbus A319 was being towed backward from the parking bay in preparation for taxiing out, said an Air India official.
Air India chairman Ashwani Lohani described the accident as a “mishap”, but it is not yet clear what happened.
“We are deeply saddened and regret the tragic incident,” Mr Lohani said. He added that the incident is being investigated.
