The  employment deprived personnel of Avant Garde Maritime Security Services Private Limited convened a media briefing on Thursday.

Chairman of the Employment Deprived Personnel of Avant Garde, Retired Commander Anura Ariyarathne stated:

They conducted investigations for eleven months saying that there is an issue with the Mahanuwara vessel and every possible institution which has the provisions of the law to conduct investigations in Sri Lanka got involved in this. But before we initiated this floating armoury in Galle, there were several other floating armouries in Galle before and we have proof for these.

He added:

Sri Lanka had no authorisation of these floating armouries. These floating armouries had come in from foreign countries and were anchored way off the seas of Galle and were functioning secretively. So, we ask those who took these over what their justification is and if they give us a justifiable answer, then we as law-abiding soldiers will also accept them.

Convener of Employment Deprived Personnel of Avant Garde, Kamal Gamage stated that Avant Garde’s highest source of income was from the Mahanuwara floating armoury and these retired soldiers who tried to live the comfort of their retirement are now left on the streets.

He further noted that fire power and wealth cannot be merged as one, because if they do, there will be grave destruction.
