An individual who is said to have cheated money by pawning fake jewellery made using the Tungsten metal has been arrested in Katubedda in Moratuwa.

The police said that two fake gold bangles weighing 36 grammes and 31 grammes respectively were seized from the possession of the suspect during the arrest.

Police have also managed to recover a stock of recipts that have been issued by state banks in Borella, Avissawella, Mirihana, Pugoda, Kottawa, Maradan and Chilaw for the pawned fake jewellery.

Investigations have revealed that the suspect to have cheated around Rs. 1.2 million rupees through the scam. The suspect is a 36-year-old resident of Kelaniya.

The suspect is due to be produced before the Moratuwa magistrate.
