12,000 Accident Deaths Reported Annually in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Health reports that between 10,000 and 12,000 people die annually in Sri Lanka due to accidents, accounting for 8% of the country's total yearly deaths, which stand at approximately 145,000.

On average, around 30 people lose their lives each day due to various types of accidents.

Notably, of those annual accident-related deaths, between 7,500 and 8,000 victims die before reaching the hospital.

The National Accident Prevention Week begins tomorrow and will continue until the 10th of July.

A series of public awareness programs will run alongside to help reduce the number of accidents and fatalities.
