COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka is gearing up to make a splash on the international stage as ten of its top lifesaving athletes prepare to compete in the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships 2025, scheduled to take place from July 7 to 15 in Swansea, Wales, UK.

Organized under the auspices of the International Life Saving Federation (ILS) and the Commonwealth Games Federation, this prestigious event is not only a showcase of elite aquatic skill and rescue readiness but also serves as the final qualifying round for the World Games in China this year — where lifesaving is officially recognized as a competitive sport.

The Sri Lanka Life Saving (SLLS) team, the national authority for drowning prevention and water safety, has selected a balanced squad of five male and five female athletes, accompanied by a Team Manager, two Coaches, and a Lady Chaperone. The team is optimistic about bringing home medals and securing their place at the World Games.

SLLS, recognized as the 22nd National Sport in Sri Lanka, operates under the Ministry of Sports and is affiliated with global organizations such as the Royal Life Saving Society (Commonwealth), International Maritime Rescue Federation (UK), and UITEMATE – Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan.

The Championships will feature a range of events designed to test speed, skill, and rescue technique — all vital components of lifesaving sport.
