The Criminal Investigations Department says that it has examined weapons that were stored aboard the Avant Garde floating armoury in the Galle Harbour. A senior officer in the CID noted that investigations are ongoing.
Police state that while employees of Avant Garde working on board the floating armoury are still aboard the ship, security is being provided by the Navy and Police.
The Avant Garde floating armoury was also discussed on Saturday’s Satana programme, telecast on Sirasa TV.
Speaking at the programme, Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara noted that there are 816 T56 and 84 S type firearms on board the ship along with about 200,000 rounds of ammunition. He stated that investigations are underway, at present, while the CID is examining the ship and its cargo.
