The election petition filed by Former Minister Rosy Senanayake, seeking a recount of the preferential votes at the concluded general election, was taken up at the Supreme court on Thursday, October 8
The petition was considered by a bench comprising Supreme court justices, Buweneka Aluwihara, Priyantha Jayawardena and Anil Gunaratne.
Former Minister Rosy Senanayake has requested court to issue an order compelling the elections commissioner to order a recount of the preferential votes at the recently concluded general elections.
Attorney at Law, President’s Counsel Faiszer Musthapha noted that Rosy Senanayake has expressed confidence that she clinched victory at the general elections.
Speaking on behalf of his client, Faiszer Musthapha requested court to issue an order mandating a recount of the said preferential votes in the Colombo district, in order to avoid confusion.
