The For Our Children campaign to ensure child protection, organised by News 1st, began proceedings from Galle and Kilinochchi on Monday October 5.
The campaign, an initiative carried out, together with the Ministry of Law and Order and Prison Reforms, will cover all 25 districts across the country.
The campaign saw the participation of many individuals from different walks of life.
Chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom – Mobitel Kumarasinghe Sirisena stated that The Capital Maharaja Organisation which is the leader in Media Service and themselves have come together to ensure the protection of the children of this country.
He went on to note that they highly appreciate the task under taken by the Capital Maharaja Organisation and Sirasa in order to fulfill this social responsibility.
Chairman of the National Youth Services Council, Eranga Weliange stated that as crimes are committed against a child, what needs to be done is to ensure that such crimes are prevented, rather than seeking for maximum punishment.
Therefore the parents need to be aware.

An awareness campaign commenced from Galle today and the team will visit Matara, Tangalle, Hambantota, Thanamalwila, Bibila, Mahiyanganaya, Kandy , Peradeniya, Katugastota, Matale , Ankumbura, Panagamuwa, Kurunegala, Narammala, Kuliyapitiya, Chilaw, Madurankuliya, Puttlam, Nochchiyagama, Anuradhapura, Thirappane, Habanrana, Hingurakgoda, Polonnaruwa, Dambulla and will reach Colombo on the 23rd of October.”
Another team commenced this campaign from the premises of the Kalai Magal School premises in Shanthipuram, Kilinochchi.
Regional government officials and members of News 1st were present for this campaign.
This team will visit, Pudukudirippu, Chavakachcheri, Madhu, Mannar, Vavuniya, Horowpathana, Trincomalee, Muttur, Kalkudah, Batticaloa, Kattankudy, Kalmune, Samanthure, Ampara, Badulla, Bandarawela, Welimada, Nuwara Eliya, Thalawakele, Hatton Ginigathhena, Yatiyantota, Kegalle, Warakapola, Nittambuwa, Gampaha and proceed to Colombo on the 23rd.
