The Attorney General’s Department has informed court today, (September 10) that a key witness of the Wasim Thajudeen case had been intimidated. Senior State Counsel Dilan Rathnayake informed the Colombo Additional Magistrate that the investigations of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) are as well, being pressured.

When the case on the death of Wasim Thajudeen was taken up once again on Thursday before the Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris, permission was granted to direct the mobile phone of the late ruggerite which was located recently, to the Department of Computer Science of the University of Colombo.

Court also instructed the Criminal Investigations Department that it will have to investigate the matter based on circumstantial evidence and commit itself to apprehend the suspects.

As an official post-mortem examination report over the incident has not been documented with court, the aggrieved party noted that it had been taken over by a Judicial Medical Officer under the name of Ananda Samarasekera. Court also directed its attention towards the statement made by JMO Samarasekara recently.

In a letter to court, he had noted the JMO carrying out the fresh postmortem examination on Wasim Thajudeen has threatened an individual serving under him.

The case will be taken up again on October 22.
