Sanctions on Iran had led to disruptions in work at the Uma Oya Project.

Secretary to the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment Nihal Rupasinghe said that, as a result, there are issues surrounding the acquisition of Iranian funds for the project.

He went on to note that it may take several months to resolve issues surrounding the funding of the Uma Oya Project.

Nihal Rupasinghe added that the government is adding Rs.500 million per month, for the construction of the project to continue.

He however noted that the government funds however will not make the work process of the fund, efficient.
