The Elections Secretariat states that the names of the candidates who emerged victorious at the 2015 General Election will be gazetted on Thursday.
Additional Elections Commissioner M.M. Mohamed stated that all results have been tallied and compiled.A list of 196 candidates who are to be selected as parliamentarians will be sent to the Government Printer today.
Meanwhile, the Elections Secretariat states that the list of MPs to be selected from the national list must be presented within a week of election results being released.
The Additional Elections commissioner added that the said list must be submitted by party general secretaries. Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunesekera states that legal action will be instituted against all persons who were arrested with respect to violating election laws during the election period.
He stated that 899 persons have been arrested with respect to violating election laws. The police media spokesperson also noted that ten complaints have been received regarding post-election violence and that eleven persons have been taken into custody over the said violations.
